MATCH TERMS

Match Terms and Conditions

A $3 million matching fund has been established by the university for Stanford Day of Giving. The match period will last 36 hours, beginning at 5 a.m. (PT) on May 13, 2026, and ending at 5 p.m. on May 14, 2026, or when the matching fund has been exhausted.

  • Gifts to any Stanford designation qualify for the match.
  • Gifts will be matched 1:1, with the match following the gift designation. For example, a $20 gift to Buck/Cardinal will secure $20 in matching funds for Buck/Cardinal.
  • To ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from this match, the maximum gift amount that will be matched is $5,000 per donor, per designation. Joint gifts up to $10,000 will qualify for the match.
  • Gifts made during the match period will be matched on a first come, first served basis until matching funds are exhausted.
  • If you give to multiple designations, each designation may receive up to $5,000 in matching funds (or $10,000 for joint gifts).
  • Gifts and pledge payments both qualify for matching dollars, but matching dollars will not draw down pledge totals.
  • Recurring gifts or automatic payments made during the match period will qualify for matching dollars.
  • Only tax-deductible gifts, or the tax-deductible portion of gifts, will be matched.
  • To unlock matching funds, you must give via one of the qualifying ways described in the section below.

Qualifying ways to give

Gifts and pledge payments from the following channels will qualify for matching funds (assuming the terms and conditions above have been met):

  • Online via the Day of Giving website.
  • Via donor advised fund (DAF) through the Day of Giving website.
    • Select the “DAFpay | Donor Advised Fund” payment option on the Day of Giving website when making your gift. DAFpay allows you to securely log into your donor advised fund account without leaving our website.
  • Online via our standard Stanford gift forms.
  • Online via the Stanford Live website.
  • Over the phone via Development Services at (650) 725-4360.

Gifts and pledge payments from the following channels require additional steps to qualify for matching funds (assuming the terms and conditions above have been met):

  • Checks: Mail your check during Day of Giving and fill out this form. Matching funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis, and the form lets us know your gift is on the way and allows us to set aside matching funds (until the match is exhausted) for when your check arrives. Checks should be made payable to “The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University” or “Stanford University” and mailed to:

    Stanford University
    P.O. Box 20466
    Stanford, CA 94309-0466
  • External DAF: Initiate your DAF gift via your financial institution during Day of Giving and fill out this form. Matching funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis, and the form lets us know your gift is on the way and allows us to set aside matching funds (until the match is exhausted) for when your DAF gift arrives.
  • Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) via IRA: Initiate your QCD gift from your IRA during Day of Giving and fill out this form. Matching funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis, and the form lets us know your gift is on the way and allows us to set aside matching funds (until the match is exhausted) for when your QCD gift arrives.
  • Stocks and securities: Email stockgifts@stanford.edu or call (650) 721-1917 during Day of Giving with your gift details (number of shares, security description, ticker symbol, and designation). Matching funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Contacting our team lets us know your gift is on the way and allows us to set aside matching funds (until the match is exhausted) for when your stock/securities gift arrives.
  • Wire transfers: Email wire_transfers@lists.stanford.edu during Day of Giving with gift amount and designation. Matching funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Emailing our team lets us know your gift is on the way and allows us to set aside matching funds (until the match is exhausted) for when your wire transfer arrives.
  • Stanford Pending Funds and DAF transfers: Contact your assigned Stanford Development representative to initiate a transfer during Day of Giving. Matching funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Your Development representative will let us know your gift is on the way, which allows us to set aside matching funds (until the match is exhausted) for when your transfer is complete.

Please note that any matching funds your gift receives will not be reflected in your online giving history. For more information, please contact our team at dayofgiving@stanford.edu.
