COMMUNITY CENTERS

The Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership (CECL) are a collective of cultural and resource centers at Stanford. Each center’s work has been, and continues to be, integral to the advancement of equity at Stanford, the deepening of intellectual engagement, and the cultivation of well-being for all Stanford students.

From the founding of the first center in 1969 to the most recent one in 2023, our centers continue to:

  • Provide learning opportunities through collaboration with academic departments to offer fellowships and curate lectures, exhibits, and performances
  • Foster understanding, helping students to understand diverse perspectives and a wide range of social issues
  • Build community by providing spaces for students to connect with others and feel a sense of belonging
  • Promote wellness by connecting students to a wide array of campus resources and supporting them as they shape their experiences and identities
Our students bring a wealth of knowledge, insight, culture, and personal experience that add to the tapestry of learning for all at Stanford—learning that takes place in the classroom, center programs and events, late-night talks in the dorm, and debates with friends. As such, collaboration and partnership are integral to CECL’s collective work. In carrying out our mission, we engage with colleagues, departments, and divisions to help Stanford create an environment where all students can thrive.
